Space-age answer to under-age ID

28 August, 2008

Age verification software that

scans and checks customers' ID has been launched by London-based Idscan Biometrics.

AgeSafe is aimed at retailers, pubs and petrol stations and works on any Windows-based PC

to read

and verif y 230 forms of ID, including driving licences, the Citizen Card and 164

types of passport.

Managing director Tamlyn Thompson said: "AgeSafe is designed to both stop teenagers buying these products and also protect retailers' livelihoods. It's cost-effective, simple and reliable."

Users can also opt to have the software upgraded so it scans customers' fingerprints and corresponds that data with their original ID.

AgeSafe costs from £1,099 (plus VAT) or can be rented on a weekly basis from £10. It comes with a one-year hardware warranty, software support and 14-day money back guarantee. For more information visit idscan.co.uk.
