IVDP lunches in October

The Port and Douro Wines Institute is holding its annual port tasting at the Portuguese ambassador's residence in London on Oct 1. Producers and UK agents will show their best ports, arranged by style, at the event. The IVDP is also holding a series of trade lunches for independent retailers and wholesalers around the country in October, to help them boost sales of Portuguese wine.

Wine Show tickets now on sale

The Wine Show is coming to Islington's Business Design Centre on Oct 23-26. More than 15,000 consumers are expected to turn up for celebrity wine walks, the Lanson Champagne Bar, and expert tuition at the Tasting Theatre. Tickets are on sale at wineshow.co.uk.

GWW invests in people

Great Western Wine has become one of fewer than a dozen businesses in the drinks trade to be awarded Investor in People status.

Managing director Philip Addis said: "This is a tremendous recognition of all the hard work and effort our staff put in to making the company a success, and acts as confirmation that we never underestimate the important part that each and every one of them makes in building this business ."

Rosé tinted glasses

I was asked recently what I thought the biggest change had been in wine fashion in the past five years. My answer was unequivocal: sales of pink wines. From being a niche that expanded and contracted with the sunshine, rosé has subtly but steadily become a stalwart of many merchants’ ranges, with Provence firmly at the top and asked for by name.
