Date set for annual Fairtrade tasting

The second annual Fairtrade wine competition tasting

takes place on Sept 16, with judges including OLN contributors Olly Smith and Patricia Langton, buyers Jo Ahearne and Maria Elener, and Sarah Jane Evans MW.

The tasting aims to highlight good quality Fairtrade wines and dispel ideas that they can compromise on quality because of their ethical credentials.

OLN is sponsoring the white wine category in the awards, the results of which will be announced at the Fairtrade Wine Tasting in Vinopolis on Nov 12.

Sales of Fairtrade products are growing at 70% year on year,

with wine

among the fastest growing ,

said Emma Sundt

of the Fairtrade Foundation.

Rosé tinted glasses

I was asked recently what I thought the biggest change had been in wine fashion in the past five years. My answer was unequivocal: sales of pink wines. From being a niche that expanded and contracted with the sunshine, rosé has subtly but steadily become a stalwart of many merchants’ ranges, with Provence firmly at the top and asked for by name.
