Brown Brothers is launching three wines in the UK
- Zibibbo, Zibibbo Rosa and Dolcetto & Syrah - which are already big sellers in Australia and aim to "exhibit Old World grape varieties and lower alcohol levels" . Zibibbo is made predominantly from Muscat of Alexandria grapes and has a 6% abv; Rosa is a rosé sparkling wine at 8% abv; and Dolcetto & Syrah is a frizzante wine with 11% abv.
Thresher appoints agencies
Thresher has appointed two agencies, Krow Communications and Media Planning Group, to handle its £2 million advertising and media accounts. The company was forced to rethink its advertising plans after its previous agency, Poulters, was closed.
Local ales for Co-op
The Co-operative has introduced two local ales into selected Yorkshire stores, both of which are made
at Harrogate's Daleside Brewery. They are Old Legover Ale and Blonde Lagered Ale, both retailing at £1.85 as part of the store's new Made in Yorkshire range available in 38 branches.
Kiwis head for Scotland
New Zealand Winegrowers will be in Edinburgh for the ninth consecutive year on Oct 14, showing the generic's long-term commitment to the Scottish wine trade
consumers. Nearly 70 wineries will be represented, with wines from the 2008 vintage making their UK debut. The event,
at Pretonfield House, will also include what is claimed to be the most in-depth comprehensive tasting of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc in Scotland.
Ginger take on Cobra Bite
Cobra Beer has launched a ginger-flavoured version of Cobra Bite, which is currently rolling out exclusively in 400 Tesco stores nationwide. The launch will be supported by sampling
in a partnership with Original Speed Dating,
advertising on women's websites and consumer PR activity. The 4.1% abv beer comes in 25cl bottles and joins a range which already includes sweet lime, blood orange and lemongrass flavours.
Myliko expands portfolio
Wine importer Myliko has appointed Christchurch-based Flying Kiwi as its New Zealand agency. The range includes a Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, Sauvignon/Semillon and South Island Pinot Noir. In Germany, Myliko has linked-up with Josef Drathen winery, and under its Orizzonti Italian own-label, the importer is now offering a Pinot Grigio from Veneto, a Sangiovese from Rubicone and a Montepulciano from Abruzzo.
Older workers stick around
Older workers are more committed to their jobs and likely to stay with employers longer, according to research by Skillsmart Retail. It found that out of 243 wokers, 63% of 35-64 year-olds saw themselves continuing in retail in the future - nearly twice the average of that of all ages (37%). It also showed that 17% of 35-64 year-olds saw retail as a temporary phase, compared to the average figure of 41%.
