Asda gets into the flow of guest ales

Asda is to list three regional guest ales on a rolling basis, with the line-up changing very 12 weeks.

The first beer for Scotland is Twisted Thistle, a 5.3% abv IPA from Greene King's Belhaven.

Greene King is also supplying the initial guest ale for shops in southern England and South Wales

- Olde Trip is a 4.3% brew named after Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem , the Nottingham pub where knights are said to have stopped for refreshment on their way to

the crusades.

The launch beer in northern England, north Wales and No rthern Ireland is the 7% abv Winter Ale, brewed by Shepherd Neame.

Beer buyer Jill Wilson said: "More and more people are sampling bottled ales at home and we are ensuring new products in store to meet the demand for different ale tastes."

The ales retail for £1.57 for 50cl bottles.

Rosé tinted glasses

I was asked recently what I thought the biggest change had been in wine fashion in the past five years. My answer was unequivocal: sales of pink wines. From being a niche that expanded and contracted with the sunshine, rosé has subtly but steadily become a stalwart of many merchants’ ranges, with Provence firmly at the top and asked for by name.
