Family champions smaller producers

17 October, 2008

The family behind Belfast

wine merchant Direct Wine Shipments

has turned importer.

McAlindon Wines specialises in importing wines from smaller producers, who it says make wines with "the most character".

Director Peter McAlindon said: "Globalisation and standardisation

have filled wine shelves and restaurants with too many wines that taste the

same.

"We have hand-picked some of the finest small producers, mostly family-owned that we have come across.

"We hope that customers are as excited as we are with the range."

The McAlindon family also produce their own wines from vineyards in

Priorat and Mont sant in northern

Spain.
