Codorníu offers 'supreme value'

31 October, 2008

Codorníu is hoping to persuade shoppers to increase the amount they spend on sparkling wine with the launch of Reina Maria Cristina Reserva Vintage 2006, which will retail for £17.99.

cava is a blend of Macabeo/Parellada/ Xarel-lo from Pened és and Chardonnay from Costers del Segre.

Bill Breen, managing director for Codorníu UK, said: "We see huge potential for

category growth in encouraging consumers to trade up from the sub-£10 market .

" Our motivation is to offer supreme value over the category leader."

Codorníu Reina Maria Cristina is named after the Regent Queen María Cristina of Spain, who in 1987 granted Codorníu the title of "purveyor to the Spanish royal household". It will be available in a blue gift box for Christmas.

The roll-out comes at a time when Nielsen figures show sparkling wine sales across the UK market were ahead by 5% in the year to Sept 6.
