Organic Belgian brews launched in UK

31 October, 2008

A Belgian brewery has been certified organic by the UK Soil Association, in what it says is a first for the country's brews.

Daas beers are brewed in Hainaut, one of Belgium's provinces known for its beers, and are all bottle-conditioned.

Daas Organic Blond , a 6.5% abv brew that makes a good aperitif according to its brewers, has just been launched to UK retailers, bars and restaurants. Daas Organic Witte, a naturally cloudy wheat beer , will be released in mid-November.

A spokeswoman for Daas UK said: "Daas beers are hand-crafted and produced in small quantities, due

to the limited availability of organic ingredients . We believe that using hops and barley grown without pesticides makes our beers

more appetising."

Daas beers are distributed by

a UK subsidiary of the brewer.

Welcoming the wine rookie

Itís all true. Wine writers loaf around in a state of partial inebriation and partial undress, bitching about having to taste free wine all day and using recondite words like malolactic, terroir and recondite.†
