Judges praised Fieldhouse, who owns three shops under the brand TC's Mini Mart, for his work in the local community and with nearby schools.
Southport-based James Hall & Co – which manages 429 Spar convenience stores – was awarded the prize for best retail chain. Judges said the company had put together a comprehensive package of responsible retailing measures.
The Retail Alcohol Standards Group’s Community Alcohol Partnership scheme was named best initiative after a four-month pilot in St Neots, Cambs, resulted in a 94% drop in young people found with alcohol.
Capper & Co, which runs 110 Spar stores, was given the prize for innovation of the year for its training package, which taught staff how to manage conflict situations as well as educating them about upholding the law.
Waitrose was highly commended in the retail chain category, while the BII Schools Project was highly commended in the initiative section.
