Hamilton and former world champion Mika Hakkinen drove a pair of London black cabs across Tower Bridge to City Hall to join a Transport for London team of professional drivers promoting the anti-drink-drive message.
The campaign by the Diageo whisky brand is aimed at encouraging the use of designated drivers and public transport by people drinking over the festive period.
Hamilton said: “Ever since I passed my driving test, whenever I go out with my friends I’m always happy to be the designated driver.”
Hakkinen, who is Johnnie Walker’s responsible drinking ambassador, said: “Lewis and I want to use our profiles positively and try to change attitudes.
“It’s great we’ve been able to come to London to highlight the real champions, the people who drive us home safely every day of the week.”
Andrew Morgan, president of Diageo Europe said: “Between them Mika and Lewis have been to over 20 countries to promote responsible drinking, and at this time of year it’s particular import to get the message across.”
