Zak is Beer Writer of the Year

OLN columnist Zak Avery has scooped a top award for writing about beer.

Avery was named Beer Writer of the Year at the annual dinner of the British Guild of Beer Writers.

He also won the Guild’s new media category.

OLN contributors Jeff Evans and Ben McFarland also won gongs at the event.

Alastair Hook, of Greenwich’s Meantime Brewery, was named Brewer of the Year.

Looking back to look forward

Wine is a liquid time capsule. Drinking older vintages not only recalls the weather conditions and winemaking styles of the past, it encourages us to reflect upon our own histories. Such reminiscence often inclines towards romanticised nostalgia. Especially after the second bottle. But looking back is a great way of learning about the future.
