He joined Thresher, now First Quench Retailing, in 2004 from Safeway, leaving two years later to work for Compass Group as European buying director.
Last year he took up a new position at Carphone Warehouse.
Alex Anson, Thresher's former trading and marketing director, described the news as tragic and said Luteijn was "a great colleague and friend who will be greatly missed ".
He added: "Those of us who were fortunate to have known Tim will remember him as
always full of energy and fun, generous and caring, with a joy for life but with a touch of the devil in him."
Phil Edwards, head of wines and spirits at First Quench Retailing, added: "I worked with Tim at Safeway
before he came here, so I knew him for 10 years.
"I obviously miss him first and foremost as a friend but from a business point of view he was always greatly supportive and incredibly professional, and showed great leadership."
