The 12 clips focus on the geography of the region, what the wines taste like and what food they work best with.
So far, WSET has produced films on Argentina, Australia, California, Chablis, Champagne, Chianti, Chile, England, Germany, New Zealand, Rioja and South Africa. A further 12 films will be made in 2009.
All the films are freely available at wsetglobal.tv. Further information and clips can also be found on social networking sites such as the WSET Facebook fan page and YouTube, “reaching people who are keen to learn using online facilities rather than the traditional classroom format”, according to the WSET.
Chief executive Ian Harris added: “With over 1,000 visitors to the site since its launch, this is clearly an endorsement of our decision to create a short introduction to various wine-related subjects. They give viewers a taster of what they could learn on a more in-depth WSET course.
“In addition it helps the industry as consumers with increased product knowledge, and interest in wine are more inclined to experiment and trade up, even in the current economic environment.”
