The WRAP Courtauld Commitmentís purpose is to help the UK hit its EU Landfill Directive targets and contribute to the overall efficiency of the retail, food and drink manufacturing sectors.
Fosterís, which supplies Lindemans, Rosemount and Wolf Blass wines, has already expanded its bulk shipping and local bottling of wine in the UK, which can reduce CO2 emissions by 55%, the company said.
Other initiatives include using rail freight and reducing the weight of glass in selected SKUs in the UK, and consolidating deliveries to reduce the number of lorries on the road.
Supply chain director Rob Hollis said: ďThrough engaging with WRAPís Retail Innovation team, and signing the Courtauld Commitment, we are now collaborating with other signatories to help achieve 2010 packaging targets, as well as developing future strategies.
ďReducing greenhouse gas emissions is a global priority for Fosterís. We see WRAP as instrumental in achieving our own environmental objectives and assisting the UK government to achieve its EU Landfill and Packaging Directives.
"Weíre looking forward to seeing more UK wine suppliers getting on board.Ē
