Coventry revokes four off-licences

10 April, 2009

Licensing authorities in Coventry have revoked the licences of four

off-licence stores in the city since the beginning of the year.

In the latest incident, staff at Wine

& Beers in Hall Green Road sold a can

of Newcastle Brown Ale to a 16-year-

sent into the store by Trading Standards

officers as part of a sting operation.

A council spokesman said: "The licence was revoked because the business had failed to implement basic measures to stop under-age sales and anti-social behaviour.

"It could not comply with its own voluntary conditions, there was a lack of day-to-day control and they were doing nothing new to stop the problems continuing."

Three other off-licences, GSK Newsagents, NK Superstore, and Tam's Off-licence have also had their licences revoked .

What makes wine special

Reaching the 50th instalment of Hemmingís Way is hardly the biggest milestone, but I donít need much of an excuse to pour myself a glass of champagne before getting dressed. Itís a better reason than I had for all 49 other instalments, anyway. Not that that stopped me.
