Wines of South Africa is taking a new consumer marketing campaign on tour to eight cities around the UK in a carbon neutral-branded double-decker bus. The tour will sample wines, introduce winemakers and teach consumers about conservation initiatives in the Cape. It kicks off at the London International Wine Fair on May 13.

Berkmann Wine Cellars has become

the exclusive UK distributor for the Chilean winery De Martino

after a 12-year break. The two had worked together in the past but parted company in 1997.

The body representing Portugal's Vinhos Verdes will

hold a tasting on April 23 from 2pm-7pm in London's Royal Exchange. The event will feature a masterclass on the region by wine writer Sarah Ahmed followed by a walk-around tasting.

Waitrose is showcasing wines from Italy, Spain, southern France, Lebanon, Kosovo and Montenegro in its Mediterranean wine showcase, which runs from April 15 to May 17.

English Vine Tours is offering three one-day vineyard experiences to celebrate English Wine Week, which runs from May 23-31. The tours cost £99 or £59 per person and combine vineyard visits with luxury lunches.

Guy Anderson Wines is launching Sauvignon Blanc in 25cl cans next month. The wine, called Cancan, is sourced from south west France and will be followed by an Italian Pinot Grigio rosé and a Prosecco.

Symington Family Estates has announced that Warre's, Dow's and Graham's ports have declared the 2007 vintage, after an exceptional year that produced high quality grapes in all the brands' vineyards.

English wine: a happy harvest for Christmas

All across England and Wales, vineyards are being harvested. Down winding country lanes come armies of welly-wearing conscripts wielding secateurs and buckets, ready to reap the rewards of our vines. Happily they come, their cheeks ruddy with pride. Half an hour later they’re crawling over muddy clods with lacerated hands, drenched in claggy juice and cold sweat, as if ploughing through an endurance race.
