Nederburg adopts World Cup theme

South African wine brand Nederburg is rolling out a range of limited edition wines to celebrate the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.

The range will consist

of a Cabernet Sauvignon, a Sauvignon Blanc and a rosé (rrp £6.99).

The wines

will feature the official licensed product logo of the football tournament and will be available from July to the end of 2010.

Sarah Gandy, marketing manager for Distell Europe, said: "The 2010 FIFA World Cup is an enormous showcase

. This is the one chance South Africa has to put itself firmly on the map.

"As Nederburg is the leading South African wine in so many international markets and with our intention to build our profile in the UK, it is a great opportunity to work with FIFA as an official supplier ."

An estimated 400,000 visitors will travel to South Africa to watch the games, Gandy added.

Rosé tinted glasses

I was asked recently what I thought the biggest change had been in wine fashion in the past five years. My answer was unequivocal: sales of pink wines. From being a niche that expanded and contracted with the sunshine, rosé has subtly but steadily become a stalwart of many merchants’ ranges, with Provence firmly at the top and asked for by name.
