Getting Fresh with rosé beer

Fresh Trade UK is launching a rosé version of its A Le Coq Estonian beer and introducing a range of flavoured ciders from the country under the brand name Fizz.

A Le Coq Rosé is flavoured with strawberry juice and is packaged in 33cl bottles at an abv of 4%.

Fizz is made by a sister company to A Le Coq in the Finnish-owned Olvi drinks group.

It is available in 33cl and 50cl cans in pear, cherry, strawberry, raspberry, blueberry, dry apple, diamond (carambola and grapefruit)

and yellow plum varieties.

A 50cl bottle is available in pear, strawberry and blueberry flavours.

All are packaged at

4.7% abv.

Fresh Trade UK director Maurice Newton said: "Flavoured cider still has huge potential as the market is waiting for that new brand that will inject some excitement for retailers."

He added that the rosé beer would be aimed at women and sold mainly into the convenience sector

"We're targeting people who may have grown up with alcopops and progressed to drinking wine.

"There are three times as many

women who drink beer on the continent than there are in the UK and we hope

this will attract more women to beer

in this market."

Rosé tinted glasses

I was asked recently what I thought the biggest change had been in wine fashion in the past five years. My answer was unequivocal: sales of pink wines. From being a niche that expanded and contracted with the sunshine, rosé has subtly but steadily become a stalwart of many merchants’ ranges, with Provence firmly at the top and asked for by name.
