Is Victoria Bitter available in the UK?

27 March, 2009

Q I've been asked several times

for VB, the Australian beer. Is it available in this country?

A VB - which stands for Victoria Bitter - is actually a lager, despite its name. It's owned by Foster's, and was supplied for many years by Scottish & Newcastle, which

lavished more attention on its big-selling Foster's brand.

Now the beer's being handled by FGB UK, which has high hopes of giving VB the status it believes it deserves in this country - its share of the Australian market is an incredible 32%.

But the company is concentrating on the on-trade for now,

so you might have to get hold of imported stock from specialist wholesalers who source the brand through their own channels. Try James Clay or Beer Paradise, both of whom list VB on their websites.

Welcoming the wine rookie

Itís all true. Wine writers loaf around in a state of partial inebriation and partial undress, bitching about having to taste free wine all day and using recondite words like malolactic, terroir and recondite.†
