Tasting table Three from Liberty Wines

27 March, 2009

Schloss Vollrads Riesling Erstes Gewächs 2004, Rheingau, Germany (rrp £21.99 )

Kerosene mingles on the nose with stone and tropical fruits - peach, apricot, mango, pineapple and lychee, exotic and rich. High acid, dry palate with fresh lemon and sweet ripe fruits. Intense and balanced with a long finish - a taste explosion. CB

Heinrich St Laurent 2006, Burgenland, Austria (rrp £17.49 )

Medium ruby with rich oak notes and dark fruit: blackcurrant, blackberry and elderberry. Fresh acid and lots of fruit on the palate. Youthful and zingy, intense and tasty with light but grippy tannins and a good spicy finish. CB

Champagne Devaux 'D de Devaux' l'Ultra NV (rrp £44.99 )

Sweet honey and lemon meet yeast and dough autolytic notes on the nose of this pale gold cuvée. It is dry but sweet and fruity, with a creamy mousse and a mineralic finish. With just 2g of residual sugar and 60 calories per glass it is perfect for anyone watching their weight, but still wanting to treat themselves to something special. CB
