Cockburn's declares '07 vintage

07 May, 2009

The Cockburnís port house has declared a 2007 vintage for its main label and for Quinta dos Canais, from which the majority of the wine for Cockburnís is sourced.

The Cockburnís blend is 45% Touriga Nacional and Touriga Franca from Quinta dos Canais, with the balance made up of grapes from old vineyards at nearby Quinta das Amendoeiras.

Managing director and master blender Miguel Corte-Real said: ďThe Cockburnís 2007 vintage will be recorded as one of the finest. The wineís depth will ensure a long and perfect ageing potential.

ďThe combination of grape varieties has resulted in a very intense and tannic rich wine, forming a firm and solid base.Ē

Quinta dos Canais is a blend of 72% Touriga Nacional and 28% Touriga Roriz. The Roriz was picked from a vineyard close to the top of the property on the final two days of the harvest.

Cockburnís is owned by Beam Global and distributed by Maxxium UK.

English wine: a happy harvest for Christmas

All across England and Wales, vineyards are being harvested. Down winding country lanes come armies of welly-wearing conscripts wielding secateurs and buckets, ready to reap the rewards of our vines. Happily they come, their cheeks ruddy with pride. Half an hour later theyíre crawling over muddy clods with lacerated hands, drenched in claggy juice and cold sweat, as if ploughing through an endurance race.
