The Spirit Drink That Blushes To Speak Its Name has been aged for just six months in former Californian wine casks. The ageing time means it doesn’t qualify for the description “Scotch whisky”.
A 50cl bottle of the 50% abv product is expected to sell for around £30 in off-trade specialists.
Managing director Stuart Nickerson said: “We were intrigued to investigate the impact of this wood on the Glenglassaugh spirit.
“The effects are spectacular and far exceeded our wildest hopes and dreams
“We have a number of other exciting maturation projects underway but the effect of these casks is so dramatic that we wanted to use this spirit to celebrate our first six months in production.
Glenglassaugh has already launched a scheme to sell 50-litre casks of spirit direct to the public at £500 each.
The distillery, on the Banffshire coast in north east Scotland, was bought by the Dutch-based Scaent Group last year and it has spent £1 million to bring it back into operation after 22 years in mothballs.
