Nyetimber wants temporary press

Renowned English wine producer Nyetimber has applied for permission to build a temporary wine pressing facility – because its new winery has been delayed by planning wrangles.

The company believes its current winery will not be able to cope with the volumes it is expecting in next year’s harvest. A planning application to expand the winery has been withdrawn so it can be amended to win planning consent.

In the meantime, Nyetimber is hoping that Chichester District Council will allow it to use a fruit packing building in Tillington, West Sussex, as a temporary facility for pressing grapes from the local area.

Nyetimber picked up a string of awards in the 2009 International Wine Challenge, including a gold medal for its 1992 Blanc de Blancs. Its wines were also served to world leaders during the G20 summit in London.
