Hat trick for Isabelo in Fairtrade awards

19 November, 2009

Isabelo Pinotage 2008 from South Africa has picked up three awards at this year’s Fairtrade Wine Competition.

It won the Off Licence News Trophy for Best Fairtrade Red, Harpers Wine & Spirit Trophy for Best Overall Fairtrade Wine and an award for Best Fairtrade South African Red.

The winners were announced at the fourth annual Fairtrade Wine Tasting held at Vinopolis in London today (November 19).

The Co-op’s Chilean Merlot Rosé 2009 won Best Fairtrade Rosé and its Cape Sparkling Rosé NV from South Africa scooped the Best Fairtrade Sparkling award.

Chairman of the Fairtrade Wine Committee Jon Woodriffe said: “Considerable investment has been made to improve growing conditions and share the latest winemaking techniques with our Fairtrade partners. The Fairtrade Mark on a bottle of wine now represents great quality as well as a guarantee of ethical trading.”

The awards were judged by a panel of experts including OLN’s Tim Atkin MW, Sarah Jane Evans MW and M&S’ Jo Ahearne MW.
