Heineken to buy Sol owner

11 January, 2010

Heineken has signed a deal to buy Femsa, the Mexican brewer which owns the Sol and Dos Equis brands.

The deal values Femsa at €3.8 billion.

Jean-Francois van Boxmeer, Heineken’s chief executive, said: “The acquisition strengthens considerably our position within the global beer market and expands our portfolio of leading international brands.”

The deal is subject to regulatory approval but is expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2010.

Sol and Dos Equis are both currently distributed by Molson Coors in the UK market.
