Greene King reports "strong" performance
Published:  27 January, 2010

Greene King has said despite poor weather over the past couple of months, trading has remained “relatively strong”.

In its interim management statement for the 38 weeks to January 24 the brewer reported like-for-like sales were up 4.3%.

The statement said: “Brewing Company own-brewed volumes were up 7.2% after 38 weeks. The performance of the business in recent weeks has been especially strong given the significant weather-related issues it has had to face.

“We continue to expect volume growth to moderate in the second half of this financial year, given the extremely strong performance delivered by Brewing Company in the final months of the previous financial year.

“We are well placed to continue strengthening our competitive position and, whilst the UK consumer outlook is still uncertain, we are confident that we will meet the board's expectations for this financial year.”
