Wine Gang select Top 100 wines

05 February, 2010

The Wine Gang have selected the line-up for the Top 100 tasting at the London International Wine Fair for the second year running.

This year’s tasting will include 30 sparkling wines to celebrate the fair’s thirtieth anniversary.

In that selection will be 15 Champagnes and 15 sparkling wines from Europe and the New World. The Champagnes will have a recommended retail price of £30 and under, and the sparkling wines will retail for £15 and under.

The rest of the tasting will consist of 70 “regional ambassadors” which show off the best about a particular region.

The Wine Gang is made up of wine writers Tim Atkin MW, Tom Cannavan, Anthony Rose, Joanna Simon and Olly Smith, who were tasked with judging each of the wines on overall quality, consistency and value for money. Only wines that scored 85% or more made the final cut.

Will Broadfoot, marketing director for the LIWF, said: “We are delighted to have The Wine Gang on board once again. The Top 100 feature was a great success in 2009, with very positive feedback on the wines selected by The Wine Gang.”

The free-pour Top 100 tasting will be located next to the masterclass theatre at the east end of the Excel hall throughout the 2010 LIWF, which takes place from May 18-20.
