International Wine Challenge has unearthed more medal winners than ever before, according to co-chairman Sam Harrop MW.

More than 400 judges spent nine days judging more than 9,000 wines from 41 countries, including Holland and Russia.

Harrop said: “The quality of entries is increasing, producers are being more selective? and we’re seeing an increase in medals being awarded.”?The results of the competition will be announced at the London International Wine Fair on May 12.

Rosé tinted glasses

I was asked recently what I thought the biggest change had been in wine fashion in the past five years. My answer was unequivocal: sales of pink wines. From being a niche that expanded and contracted with the sunshine, rosé has subtly but steadily become a stalwart of many merchants’ ranges, with Provence firmly at the top and asked for by name.
