Jewell takes on Spar role Ex Sainsbury’s wine buyer Laura Jewell MW is joining Spar in May as its wine trading controller. Jewell is currently with agency firm HWCG as agency director. The move comes as the group reports “above aver?age” wine sales, against the rest of the market. Licensed trading director Chris Lewis said: “This is great news for our retailers, RDCs and suppliers as consumers are recognising that we offer good value on a great range of wine in our stores. The growth is not just from entry?-level wines, but from all price points, as consumers focus more on entertainment at home, rather than in a pub or restaurant.”??LVMH denies Moët?-Diageo deal

uxury goods company LVMH has denied press reports that it plans to sell its wine and spirits division, Moët Hennessy, to Diageo. “LVMH confirms that no such negotiations are taking place,” the company said in a statement.

Atkin listed for writing award?OLN’s Tim Atkin MW has been shortlisted for the Business Columnist of the Year prize in the PPA Awards, for his regular On The Case column. The winner will be announced on June 30.

Hofmeister may need more than the bear essentials to succeed

So, George The Bear is back. It’s hard for some of us oldies to fathom, but there are those under, say, 40 who can’t actually remember Hofmeister and feel the cultural jolt supplied by the return of both the bear and the beer whose marketing campaigns it used to front.
