Stephens lands McWilliam’s wine job

19 February, 2010

First Quench’s former commercial director Lloyd Stephens has been taken on by Australian wine firm McWilliam’s as general manager for Europe, Africa and Asia.

McWilliam’s established a joint venture with Gallo in 2001, which made the Californian producer worldwide distributor of McWilliam’s Hanwood Estate brand outside Australia and New Zealand.

Stephens said: “We’re continuing to work with Gallo but in the UK we’ll be going direct to some customers. I’m absolutely delighted and it signifies more involvement for McWilliam’s in the UK.”?Meanwhile, former First Quench wine buyer Omar Ansari has joined wholesaler Palmer & Harvey as its BWS buyer following the departure of Fiona Bailey.

Looking back to look forward

Wine is a liquid time capsule. Drinking older vintages not only recalls the weather conditions and winemaking styles of the past, it encourages us to reflect upon our own histories. Such reminiscence often inclines towards romanticised nostalgia. Especially after the second bottle. But looking back is a great way of learning about the future.
