Pernod Ricard organic declinePernod Ricard has reported a 3% decline in organic net sales in the half year to December 31, in line with expectations. The group – whose brands include Mumm, Absol?ut and Beefeater – said spirits had performed better than wine and Champagne, and that business in Europe “remained difficult”. The second quarter saw overall sales decline by 2% – an improvement on the previous quarter when there was a 4% dip.

JD Single Barrel redesigned Bacardi-Brown Forman has redesigned the packaging for its Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Select, the super-premium version of the Tennessee whiskey brand. The bottle takes its design cues from a classic square-shouldered whisky decanter.

Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel has an rrp of £33.99.

?SAB Miller sees lager sales dipPeroni and Pilsner Urquell brewer SAB Miller saw lager volumes in Europe fall by 2% in the third quarter of its current financial year, the period ending December 31. Total lager volumes were level with the previous year, but 1% down for the first nine months of the financial year. Africa, Asia and Latin America all contributed to growth in beer sales in the quarter under review.

Frank Coe dies, aged 90 Former Coe Vintners boss Frank Coe has died at the age of 90. Frank was responsible for building up the business in the post-war years when it comprised off-licences, a cash and carry and a wholesale business. He handed over the reins to sons John and Geoffrey in 1985.

?New Cellar Trends Spanish roleCellar Trends has appointed its first brand development manager for its Spanish wines. Colin Hynard will be responsible for the portfolio of wines from seven bodegas in the newly created role. “Our most interesting wines have been available in small batches or on a limited basis. But in the year ahead, we aim to make some of the top-end Faustino wines more accessible?, so consumers can discover new favourites,” he said.

Author moves into wine salesWine author Dominic Rippon has launched an online service selling wines direct from top French producers. Strictly Wine has opening offers on wines from Touraine and the Rhône? and is giving away free copies of Rippon’s book, Dominic’s France.

Food and whisky breakThe Glengoyne Scotch whisky distillery has teamed up with the Monachyle Mhor Hotel in Perthshire to offer a two-night food and whisky break. The package includes a seasonal cooking demonstration, a master blender session at the distillery, a mobile tutored nosing tour through the Trossachs and a chance to taste Glengoyne 40 Year Old. The cost is £684 per room based on two sharing.
