Wine industry consultant Angela Mount has been appointed to head up Gondola Wines, the online wine business launched by Peter Jones of Dragon’s Den fame and his business partner Phil Lucas.
Mount, former head of wine buying for Somerfield, had been advising on the set-up of the business last year. “Online sales and marketing is the future of wine retailing,” she said, “and with the infrastructure and logistics platform of Peter Jones’ Phones International Group already established, we have an opportunity to develop this channel to market.
“We’re already working with some of the UK’s top brand owners, and will be developing our range further over the coming months.
“The site is in its early stages and there are exciting plans in place to develop a sophisticated, interactive website which provides the ability to engage, inform, and provide real choice and solutions for the wine-drinking public.”
Gondola says it is already exceeding 1,000 orders a day with an average spend of more than £80. It has appointed Nic Cordingley online partnerships manager. He is former head of retail at Affiliate Future, an online marketing agency.
