New cider bears cross for England

Henney’s has launched a medium-dry cider adorned with a St George’s Cross label.

England’s Pride has an abv of 6% and is packaged in 50cl bottles.

The cider has already won listings with Tesco, Morrisons, Booths and Rhythm & Booze.

Director Mike Henney said: “I hope to establish the brand in the long term.

“This is not just another novelty product to capitalise on the World Cup.

“It is an authentic, craft cider of the highest quality, although I do expect strong sales associated with the football this summer, as this provides a premium alternative to the mainstream for the discerning drinker.”

Rosé tinted glasses

I was asked recently what I thought the biggest change had been in wine fashion in the past five years. My answer was unequivocal: sales of pink wines. From being a niche that expanded and contracted with the sunshine, rosé has subtly but steadily become a stalwart of many merchants’ ranges, with Provence firmly at the top and asked for by name.
