Cloudy Bay Riesling hits UK

11 May, 2010

Iconic New Zealand wine brand Cloudy Bay has released the first parcel of its Riesling to be sold in the UK.

The dry wine has been made since the 2003 vintage but is available mainly in Australia and its native New Zealand.

Cloudy Bay Riesling is made from grapes sourced from the Brancott and Fairhall sub-regions of the Wairau Valley. The 2006 vintage will have a recommended retail price of £22 and is available through Moet Hennessy UK.

Winemaker Tim Heath said: “The style that we’ve settled on is hard to pin down. It has all the hallmarks of a Marlborough Riesling but with an intriguing complexity derived from hands off winemaking techniques.

“The fresh aromatics belie the wine’s age and the crisp acidity is beautifully counterbalanced by the merest hint of residual sugar.”

English wine: a happy harvest for Christmas
