l Dom Pérignon has launched its rosé vintage 2000 along with Oenothèque Rosé 1990 – the first ever mature vintage rosé champagne from its specially aged Oenothèque collection. Both wines are available in limited quantities from April, with Oenothèque Rosé 1990 priced from £520 and Dom Pérignon Rosé 2000 from £280.

González Byass and The Benevolent are to host a sherry masterclass at Bar Pepito, London, which opens to the public later this month and is billed as London’s only sherry bar. Held on March 22 at 7pm, profits from the tasting will be donated to The Benevolent.

Laithwaites Wine is donating 5% from all Chilean wine sales during March to the Chilean Embassy Earthquake Appeal Fund.

Waitrose is ramping up its listings of Concha y Toro Sunrise range with the addition of Sunrise Merlot Rosé (rrp £4.99) and Sunrise Carmenère (rrp £5.99). Both wines will be bottled in Eco Glass lightweight bottles.

Buckingham Schenk has won a listing at Morrisons for its new Italian wine Valbello Pinot Grigio (rrp £7.99). The Venetian wine has an abv of 11% and is sourced by Schenk Italia.

Rosé tinted glasses

I was asked recently what I thought the biggest change had been in wine fashion in the past five years. My answer was unequivocal: sales of pink wines. From being a niche that expanded and contracted with the sunshine, rosé has subtly but steadily become a stalwart of many merchants’ ranges, with Provence firmly at the top and asked for by name.
