l Members of the All-Party Parliamentary Beer Group and the All-Party Parliamentary Cheese Group have chosen their top three pairings of British cheeses and beers. Fuller’s Vintage Ale 2008 and vintage cheddar cheese scooped first prize, second place went to red Leicester cheese with Innis & Gunn Oak Aged Beer, and Meantime IPA paired with Wensleydale and cranberry cheese was the third most popular choice.

A new perry-based drink aimed at women claims to combine the “sessionability” of premium cider or beer with the “sociability and sophistication” of wine. Carnaby Brown is a blend of perry and Muscat and has an abv of 5.5%. It’s available in 75cl Bordeaux-style bottles with an rrp of £3.79 per bottle.

The Society of Independent Brewers has elected Keith Bott as its new chairman. The managing director of Titanic took up the position after Wye Valley’s Peter Amor stood down from the role he held for three years. SIBA has also brought in a new design award for its Brewing Business Awards 2010. Member brewers will be rewarded for the best designs for bottle labels and POS.

Hofmeister may need more than the bear essentials to succeed

So, George The Bear is back. It’s hard for some of us oldies to fathom, but there are those under, say, 40 who can’t actually remember Hofmeister and feel the cultural jolt supplied by the return of both the bear and the beer whose marketing campaigns it used to front.
