l Former Scottish & Newcastle chairman Sir Brian Stewart has joined Magners firm C&C Group as non-executive director and chairman designate. He will take over as non-executive chairman from Tony O’Brien, who is retiring in August. Stewart will join former S&N executives John Dunsmore, Stephen Glancey and Kenny Neison in senior C&C roles.

Purity Brewing is to be the official drinks sponsor of the Flatpack Festival – a series of film and music events to be held in Birmingham from March 23 to 28. Purity’s Pure U?BU ale and Veltins lager will be served in hospitality at venues, as well as in customer bars at some venues.

A pear cider with a football-themed pack is being launched by new company? United Beers. United pear cider will be packed in 50cl bottles, 20 to a case, and has an abv of 4.5%. The company plans to launch a lager at the end of March as part of a push behind football-themed products in World Cup year.

Rosé tinted glasses

I was asked recently what I thought the biggest change had been in wine fashion in the past five years. My answer was unequivocal: sales of pink wines. From being a niche that expanded and contracted with the sunshine, rosé has subtly but steadily become a stalwart of many merchants’ ranges, with Provence firmly at the top and asked for by name.
