A panel of industry experts will set a benchmark for wines from each vintage. Wines which exceed the level will be able to use the definition and carry a logo.
Producers will have to achieve the “cru bourgeoise reconnaissance” accreditation for wines from each vintage in a blind tasting, rather than keeping it in perpetuity.
The first wines to achieve the mark will be from the 2008 vintage and will be revealed in September.
Frédérique Dutheillet, director of L’Alliance des Crus Bourgeois de Médoc, said: “It’s an annual guarantee and shows that each vintage is controlled. The consumer can be sure that the wine has been tasted that year and has come up to the benchmark level.”
