10 June, 2010

The Co-op has recalled four Californian wines because of a danger that customers could find small pieces of glass in them.

The affected products are all in 75cl bottles.

Three are own-labels: Co-op The Pink Chill Zinfandel RosÚ with lot numbers L10120, L10126, L10127, L10128, L10130, L10131, L10132 and L10144; Co-op the Fab Cab Ruby Cabernet/Shiraz, lot numbers L10132 and L10133; and Co-op the Big Chill Colombard/Chardonnay, lot numbers L10119, L10120, L10134, L10137, and L10138.

The fourth wine is Silver Creek Sauvignon Blanc with the lot codes L10133 and L10134.

Product recall notices have been displayed in Co-op branches explaining how customers can obtain a refund.

The Food Standards Agency said no other Co-op products were affected.

Looking back to look forward

Wine is a liquid time capsule. Drinking older vintages not only recalls the weather conditions and winemaking styles of the past, it encourages us to reflect upon our own histories. Such reminiscence often inclines towards romanticised nostalgia. Especially after the second bottle. But looking back is a great way of learning about the future.
