Invivo Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough, New Zealand (rrp £11.99)?This is the second vintage from boutique wine brand Invivo, which?has teamed up with industry consultant Angela Mount. It has?a crisp, gooseberry nose, with fresh green apple notes and subtle tropical flavours. Well-balanced and medium-long finish.

NC??Viñalba Selección Torrontés?Lujan de Cuyo, Mendoza (rrp £7.99)?This is the latest edition Viñalba?– a joint venture between Buckingham Schenk and Mendoza-based Domaine Vistalba, which is owned by Hervé and Diane Joyaux Fabre. Very pale, floral and stonefruits on the nose. Elegant, with lots of apricot on the palate. Medium finish.

NC??Isabelo Pinotage 2008?Imbuko Wines, South Africa?(rrp £4.99)?A very worthy winner of Off

icence News’ trophy for Best Overall Fairtrade Red Wine. A complex nose of sweet plums, fresh black fruit and spice, followed by full, ripe berry flavours on the palate, combined with an underlying sweetness of banana and vanilla. Firm tannins?and a smooth, long aftertaste.

English wine: a happy harvest for Christmas

All across England and Wales, vineyards are being harvested. Down winding country lanes come armies of welly-wearing conscripts wielding secateurs and buckets, ready to reap the rewards of our vines. Happily they come, their cheeks ruddy with pride. Half an hour later they’re crawling over muddy clods with lacerated hands, drenched in claggy juice and cold sweat, as if ploughing through an endurance race.
