Leading retailers and suppliers packed Londonís Dorchester Hotel for OLNís prestigious Drinks Retailing Awards this week.

More than 300 guests were there to applaud the winners in 17 categories, including the Lifetime Achievement Award which went to former Federation of Wholesale Distributorsí chief Alan Toft, the architect of the Blueprint drinks merchandising scheme.

Majestic, Waitrose, Tesco, Booths and Sainsburyís all won awards in the multiple retailer categories, while triumphant indies included Berry Bros & Rudd, Dolans Liquid World, Cambridge Wine Merchants, the Whisky Exchange, Corks Out, Barrica Wines and the Real Ale Corner.

Booker was named Wholesaler of the Year.

OLN editor Rosie Davenport said: ďThis yearís awards recognised the businesses that continue to shine in our industry through hard work and flair, despite difficult economic times.Ē

Hofmeister may need more than the bear essentials to succeed

So, George The Bear is back. Itís hard for some of us oldies to fathom, but there are those under, say, 40 who canít actually remember Hofmeister and feel the cultural jolt supplied by the return of both the bear and the beer whose marketing campaigns it used to front.
