Germany spreads the word online

Wines of Germany is hoping its new website will drive sales of the country’s wines and reach a younger audience.

One of the features at winesofgermany.co.uk is a wine search function, which gives links to retailers’ websites so consumers can buy direct. Users are also able to search for German wines by abv, colour, region and grape variety.

The site has a trade section to highlight upcoming wine tastings and initiatives from the German Wine Institute.

Nicky Forrest, managing director for Wines of Germany UK, said a “strong digital campaign focused around the website” forms a key part of the generic body’s communications plans for 2010.

Meanwhile, Romanian Winegrowers, an independent body of wine producers from the country, has launched romanian-winegrowers.com, a site which has been designed for the UK market.

Looking back to look forward

Wine is a liquid time capsule. Drinking older vintages not only recalls the weather conditions and winemaking styles of the past, it encourages us to reflect upon our own histories. Such reminiscence often inclines towards romanticised nostalgia. Especially after the second bottle. But looking back is a great way of learning about the future.
