Maison Koenig was founded in 1760 in Bergheim, near Colmar, and is still in the hands of the Koenig family today.
The estate consists of more than 20ha, including holdings in two grands crus – Altenberg de Bergheim and Kanzlerberg, the smallest grand cru in Alsace at 3.23ha.
Barwell & Jones is taking on Koenig’s full range of wines, including Pinot Gris 2008, Gewürztraminer 2008 and Riesling Grand Cru Kanzlerberg 2004.
“The presentation is modern and the style of Maison Koenig is dry, refreshing, easy drinking with wonderful purity of fruit and great balance,” said Dirceu Vianna Junior, wine development director for the Coe Group, which owns Barwell & Jones.
Vianna is the first and only male Brazilian MW.
