Thorpe to take lead role at Negociants

One-time Waitrose wine buyer Simon Thorpe MW has joined Yalumba supplier Negociants UK as managing director, a month after leaving Constellation Europe.

Thorpe, one of the best?-known figures in the UK wine trade, was Constellation’s vice?-president for premium wine and wine development. Before that he was purchasing director at Western Wines.

He described Negociants as “a business ?represent?ing wineries which encapsulate all that is great about the Australian wine industry”.

Rosé tinted glasses

I was asked recently what I thought the biggest change had been in wine fashion in the past five years. My answer was unequivocal: sales of pink wines. From being a niche that expanded and contracted with the sunshine, rosé has subtly but steadily become a stalwart of many merchants’ ranges, with Provence firmly at the top and asked for by name.
