l Sainsbury’s has recruited Oddbins buyer Julie Buckley to its wine-buying team. Justin James, BWS category manager, said her eight years’ experience at Oddbins would benefit Sainsbury’s wine strategy, which will focus on product quality and innovation.

Codorníu has released Clásico Rosado cava as a partner to its Clásico 1872 Brut, to meet the growing demand for rosé. The rosé is a blend of Monastrell, Garnacha and Trepat and is described as having hints of pastry and yeast from nine months ageing on the lees. It is being listed with the Co-op.

Maison Louis Latour has launched a new website for its Beaujolais domaine Henry Fessy, coinciding with the release of its 2009 vintage. The 70ha family estate was purchased by Louis Latour in 2008.

The Boutique Wineries Tasting 2010 will be held at the River Room in London’s Westminster on September 21, from 10.30am-5pm. Up to 20 travel bursaries worth £40 each are available on a first-come-first-served basis (one per company) to visitors travelling more than 200 miles. The boutique-wineries.co.uk website is open for registration.

Buckingham Schenk has taken on Insight, a new brand from New Zealand’s Vinultra. Made by former Cloudy Bay winemaker Eveline Fraser, Insight Sauvignon Blanc is made in Marlborough’s Waihopai Valley, and the label features a QR code which takes consumers to a website featuring winery information.

Mentzendorff has committed to taking on the entire portfolio of the Crossroads Winery in Hawkes Bay, New Zealand. The wines include a selection of aromatic whites and varietal reds, plus a tiny parcel of Talisman, a blended red with a rrp of £19. Prices start at £9.50 for the Hawkes Bay Pinot Gris 2008.

Continental Wine & Food has extended its Silver Bay Point British wine brand to include a lightly sparkling format. A white and rosé are available at 5.5% abv with an rrp of £2.99 per 75cl bottle. The drinks are aimed at women aged 25 to 45 years.

Alsaces’s Zinck Winery has launched 2008 Riesling and Gewürztraminer wines from its Portrait range. Both are stocked by Majestic, rrp £7.99, and are currently on promotion at £1 off two bottles.

The reasons Donald Trump should not be left in charge of a shopping trolley, let alone the keys to the White House, are plentiful and well-documented – from his use of the word “bigly” and lamentable business legacy to his dubious post-modern feminist principles, quite astonishing lack of political acumen and, most worrying of all, his bewildering hair.
