Chaired by Jon Campbell, owner of Define in Cheshire, the Vindependents includes some of the best-known wine specialists in the country, who are working together as a buying group and a mutual support network.
The group has also created its own charter, which will govern the way its members work and the standards they expect from suppliers.
Members include Woodwinters in Bridge of Allan, Worth Brothers in Lichfield, Noel Young and Amps Fine Wines in Cambridgeshire, the Sampler in London, the Vineking in Reigate, the Butlers Wine Cellar in Brighton and Reserve Wines in Manchester.
Douglas Wood, owner of Woodwinters, said: “It started off not as a buying group per se. If one of us has access to good kit we’ll taste it together and we order as much as we want. It all comes on the same carrier and gets dropped at each person’s location and we pay for it separately.”?Wood said some members’ roles were to liaise directly with UK suppliers to secure parcels of wine, while others were responsible for direct sourcing.
