WSET freezes course pricesThe Wine & Spirit Education Trust has frozen prices at 2009 levels on courses, exams and materials for the 2010/11 academic year. Chief executive Ian Harris said: “We recognise it has been a tough year for all sectors of the industry, with the economic climate placing a greater strain on training budgets than ever before.”??Cider on offer at AsdaAsda is offering three bottled ciders for £4 and two 4-packs for £6 in a cider festival running over the next six weeks. The festival will feature brands including Bulmers Summer Blend, Rekorderlig Wild Berries and Kopparberg in cans.

Tuaca goes on tourA nationwide tour of a Tuaca sampling campaign started this week in its UK home of Brighton. Drinks were served from bespoke Tuaca-branded “surfboard” trays and consumers were offered prizes via Facebook. The tour will finish in Inverness in mid-September after visiting 20 cities.

Tivoli Wines rises from ashesA former Wine Rack in Cheltenham has reopened as an independent. Tivoli Wines is run by husband and wife Kai and Caroline Horstmann, who have invested £20,000 in a refurbishment and the installation of an Enomatic dispenser. The shop will specialise in boutique winery products from South Africa, France and New Zealand.

Glencadam adds to rangeGlencadam distillery has expanded its single malt range with three new limited editions: a 12-year-old malt finished in port wood (rrp £39.99), an oloroso-finished 14-year-old (rrp £42.99) and a 21-year-old (rrp £55.99).

Sauvignon first for Piat d’OrPiat d’Or is launching its first Sauvignon Blanc within its varietal portfolio. The Vin de France wine has an rrp of £4.99 and is sealed with a screwcap.

Hofmeister may need more than the bear essentials to succeed

So, George The Bear is back. It’s hard for some of us oldies to fathom, but there are those under, say, 40 who can’t actually remember Hofmeister and feel the cultural jolt supplied by the return of both the bear and the beer whose marketing campaigns it used to front.
