Muscadet producers are taking the unprecedented step of distilling surplus wines. The crisis measure comes as producers are struggling to sell stock from 2008 and previous vintages. The distillation scheme means growers will be paid to remove inventories of AO Muscadet, AO Muscadet Sèvre et Maine, AO Muscadet Coteaux de la Loire and AO Muscadet Côtes de Granlieu.
Argentinian wine brand Septima is to have eight wines listed by the new Wine Rack chain. The wines include Dia Chardonnay, Gran Reserva and Noche Pinot Noir. Carolyn d’Aguilar, UK brand manager for Bodega Septima, said: “Premium Argentina will find its natural home here.”
Goats do Roam will release its 2009 punningly-titled, claret-style Bored Doe wine in the last quarter of the year. The wine is made for the company by Fairview in South Africa and is a blend of Petit Verdot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc, aged for 15 months in old French oak. It is sold in the UK through Liberty Wines, with an rrp of £8.99.
Fitou co-operative Mont Tauch has launched its Cellar Reserve d’Altitude Vieilles Vignes in the UK. The wine is made with grapes from 100-year-old Carignan, Grenache and Syrah vines at an altitude of 600 metres. The wine is being listed by Morrisons with a shelf price of £7.99.
Champagne Philipponnat has released the 2004 vintage of its Grand Blanc wine. The fizz has an rrp of £49.99 and is distributed in the UK through Les Caves de Pyrène.
