Mount Gay launches luxury product

06 August, 2010

Mount Gay rum is targeting the gift market with a new luxury rum.

The rum has been named Mount Gay 1703 after the date the company was founded and is a blend of rums aged from 10 to 30 years.

It will have an rrp in the region of £125 and has already won a listing with Harrods, where it will feature in a window display.

Talks with other top-end retailers about list-?ings are ongoing.

Kathy Roe, senior brand manager at First Drinks, said: “The price point obviously means the opportunity is limited but it still has a lot of potential in luxury and specialist retailers for gifting and special occasions.

“It’s going to appeal to the discerning consumer who enjoys good food and drink and who is prepared to pay more for a quality product.

“It also gives an opportunity to talk to consumers about the rest of the range when we’re doing tastings with 1703.”?The 1703 mark joins a Mount Gay range that comprises the main Eclipse brand and the premium XO, which sells for around £37.49.
