Banrock helps support bees

Banrock Station is supporting the Co-op’s campaign to preserve the bee population with the release of three limited-edition bottles available exclusively in the Co-op and Somerfield.

Five pence from every bottle of Banrock Station Shiraz Rosé, Semillon Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon sold will be donated to the cause.

It hopes to raise £45,000 to help fund UK projects in the retailer’s Plan?Bee initiative.

The bottles feature a limited-edition label, with a flower and bee illustration, and neck collar highlighting the Plan Bee association to drive awareness and sales.

The brand will also be on promotion in the Co-op and Somerfield at £4.60 – down from £6.10.

Clare Griffiths, vice president for Constellation Europe, said: “Banrock Station is delighted to be supporting the Co-operative’s Plan Bee campaign as the latest in a long line of international environmental projects.

“The creation of the special-edition bottles highlighting Plan Bee will appeal to consumers who want to enjoy great quality wine while giving something back.” Banrock Station is situated 200km north east of Adelaide at Kingston on Murray, South Australia, and claims to have a growing reputation as an “eco-conscious wine brand”.

To date, the winery has contributed £2.3 million to 95 environmental projects around the world.

Rosé tinted glasses

I was asked recently what I thought the biggest change had been in wine fashion in the past five years. My answer was unequivocal: sales of pink wines. From being a niche that expanded and contracted with the sunshine, rosé has subtly but steadily become a stalwart of many merchants’ ranges, with Provence firmly at the top and asked for by name.
